Superheroes fireworks night hailed as big success

DUNFERMLINE fireworks display has been hailed a major success after being moved to its new Saturday evening schedule .

The event was switched from the traditional date of 5th November to make it more visitor and family friendly and there was also a new events company delivering  the firework elements of the  show this year.

The organisers were delighted with the results of the changes and the move to Saturday night is likely to be permanent.

Despite a heavy downpour on Saturday afternoon, the crowds descended on Pittencrieff Park and the rain had gone off by the time of the fireworks.

Bill Fletcher, chair of Dunfermline Delivers, said, “There were massive crowds there and everybody was in good spirits.

"People had said to us before that having the display on a weekday makes things a bit rushed for families and it was  much more relaxed on the Saturday.

"People have been saying it’s the biggest crowd they’ve seen down the Glen for the fireworks so we’re delighted with how it went.

"There’s been a lot of positive feedback from restaurants who enjoyed really good business on Saturday." He went on to praise the  efforts of the 21cc group, who delivered a much improved display, at a considerable cost  saving on previous years

Helen Law, chair of City of Dunfermline area committee, said, “The event was fabulous. Dunfermline has a fireworks display to be proud of and it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves.

"The fireworks displays have been great in recent years but to me this was the best yet and it was great to hear that the restaurants and cafes in the town were all so busy."

Dunfermline MSP Cara Hilton said, “I had the kids there and they loved it. It was a great display and the decision to move it to Saturday was the right one.

"Well done to everyone involved in putting on such a successful event."

Ahead of the fireworks with theme of super-heroes, including Batman, Spiderman and Superman, there was entertainment providing by a samba band at the Glen Gates and the West Fife Schools Pipe Band next to the Abbey.

Also adding to the occasion was the Kingdom FM roadshow and Fife Provost Jim Leishman was a special guest.

There was a new firm providing the fireworks entertainment this year, the 21CC Group and the show went down well with posters on the Dunfermline Delivers website.
