Winter Spectacular Announced for Kingdom’s Ancient Capital

Dunfermline is to become the centre of festive celebrations as BIDs company, Dunfermline Delivers, unveils details of spectacular events designed to attract new visitors to the city and support its business members.

Visitors will experience the magic of Christmas as Dunfermline marks the start of 2014’s official festive season on Friday 21st November.  Kicking off the with a Christmas market on St Catherine’s Wynd from 11am.

On Saturday 22nd November the festival goes into full swing with magicians, festive storytelling, street theatre and traditional carol singers. Kingdom FM and the Soul Kings will entertain the crowds with music, gags and DJ’s as part of their official Christmas road show starting from 2pm.

Santa and his merry men will parade with their variety of followers from East Port at 4.15pm to the Glen gates before his resting point underneath Dunfermline’s magical Christmas tree.

The main event will be at 5pm, when Dunfermline will be transformed into a magical kingdom with the official light switch on of the Christmas lights and Christmas Tree.

Visitors to the city centre over the festive period will be able to check out the new businesses selected for the Venture Street initiative, which will be open for trade on Bruce Street from 14th November until 24th December.  These will include Soup A Men, Tiger Tees and The Coffee Place, amongst others.

Chief Executive Maggie Mitchell added: “Dunfermline’s free winter schedule is bigger and brighter than ever.   These events are extremely important, as they help bring the community together, as well as showcase the fantastic things, which Dunfermline has to offer to residents and visitors. Dunfermline Delivers is delighted to spearhead these initiatives.”

The Dunfermline Winter Fair and Fireworks are just some of the many events organised by Dunfermline Delivers to help position the city as a thriving city with so much to offer culturally as well as being a great place to shop, live and work.
