Many people considering buying a hamster are wondering what these animals are actually fed. It turns out that they can eat a lot of different foods, such as vegetables, fruits or grains. In addition, however, you can now buy a lot of ready-made delicacies, which are intended for hamsters.

What to feed the hamster?

It should be remembered that cereal grains are among the basic elements from which ready meals are composed, both for hamsters and other rodents. This is not surprising, however, as cereal grains are the most important component of the diet of these animals.

What can I feed my hamster?

The simplest solution used by most hamster owners is to buy ready-made mixtures of various grains. Of course, nothing stands in the way of creating such mixtures on your own. It is enough to buy the right seeds, for example corn, wheat, oats or rye. However, let's always make sure that the beans we serve to our hamster are fresh and dry and, of course, not mouldy.

No matter what hamster we have, Syrian, Roborowski or jungle, it is worth knowing that sunflower is one of their favourite foods.

These seeds should be one of the most important parts of a hamster's meal, as they contain many valuable ingredients such as fibre, potassium, iron, protein, provitamins and vitamins, fats, tin foil and zinc.

It should be remembered that sunflower, despite its beneficial properties, is also quite calorific. Therefore, it cannot be fed too often to our hamster.

Walnuts, hazelnuts and peanuts taste very good for hamsters and are a rich source of antioxidants, fibre, unsaturated fatty acids and proteins.

If we want to make the hamster diet more varied, it is worth adding cucumbers, broccoli, peppers, carrots and tomatoes to it. However, let's not give them too much at once, as fruit and vegetables spoil very quickly.

Zoological shops are exceptionally well stocked with many different delicacies for rodents. Most often, the owners of these animals choose flasks, which additionally help to exterminate the hamster incisors. Unfortunately, however, they are very calorific.
