Dog training, training, or maybe upbringing?

What is best for our dog? The subject of general understanding of education not only in dogs but also in children leads to fierce disputes. Let's consider what's better? Is it a hard arm principle, or a stress-free upbringing, or maybe a partnership approach? There are as many ideas as there are people. So let's take a close look at how the problem of upbringing the pets looks like in the cynology industry.

The training of our dogs is usually associated with us, i.e. owners, with impersonal teaching, i.e. certain behaviours and lack of any possibility to make any decisions independently by the subject, which is subjected to such an action. What should we know about animal husbandry? How to train your dog to assimilate the most important principles that will make the relationship with the owner and other dogs as good as possible?

Let's start with traditional methods, which we don't recommend. The most frequently used in the training of a four-legged person is an effect such as an aversive stimulus. This training can be compared to the so-called traditional methods - also called averse methods. This method uses negative amplification and positive extinguishing to teach new or eliminate unwanted behaviour of our pet. Another negative reinforcement is to learn new behaviours, but by eliminating an aversive factor. This is usually a stimulus that causes mental discomfort or pain. For example, when we teach your dog to walk on a so-called loose leash with a dog's earring.

The dog feels pain while pulling the owner, it is connected with strangling and piercing the earrings in the neck of the dog. If our pet slows down, the leash relaxes and the feeling of relief appears. Dog after such behavior learns that without tensioning the leash will avoid pain. Improper training of our dog can have different effects. Why we should not use the above mentioned methods in the training of four-legged children. The first and most important issue is humanitarianism. We should not allow, that the goal that we set for ourselves, namely having a non-comfortable dog, causes physical and mental suffering to the four-legged person.

Secondly, the fact that aversion is the cause of a series of behavioural problems is a behavioural type. The most common problems include, among others, the occurrence of aggressive behavior - most often it is the effect of defense. Another is the loss of trust on the part of our pet, learned helplessness, appears in very submissive dogs, which tend to be anxious behaviors, as well as the rapid disappearance of learned behaviors when using given methods and the most important is the lack of any possibility of establishing a bond with the dog.

Summarizing the training of our dogs is usually associated with us, i.e. owners, with impersonal teaching, i.e. certain behaviors and lack of any possibility of independent decision making by the subject, which is subjected to such action. What should we know about animal husbandry? How to train your dog to assimilate the most important principles that will make the relationship with the owner and other dogs as good as possible?
